Queen of Soul
“Both the singers and the players on instruments say, ‘All my springs are in you.’” – Ps. 87:7
If a song’s about something I’ve experienced or that could’ve happened to me it’s good. But if it’s alien to me, I couldn’t lend anything to it. Because that’s what soul is all about. – Aretha Franklin
Aretha Franklin has survived the ever-changing world of musical fashion. Fact is, she has created a few fashions of her own. Starting in the sixties, when she defined the Golden Age of Soul, her highly personal gospel-inspired sound brought her status as one of the Greats of American Music. She has won virtually every award there is to win, scoring dozens of hits, 15 Grammy awards and numerous Lifetime Achievement Awards. She is the youngest recipient in the history of the Kennedy Center Honors-as well as the first woman to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. She has had 12 million selling singles and 20 No.1 R&B hits. There are other artists that have left a legacy in the business, but this lady still has the chops. Her voice is probably stronger than it ever was and her career is far from being over. She is one of those privileged few that is able to stay on top. We are covering her production for a show in Washington DC on Oct. 22 at the Constitution Hall.
